Fort Worth weddings split into two kinds. There are the city weddings, in the Stockyards, on the Near Southside, or in the gardens of the Cultural District, where every hotel is ten minutes away. And there are the country weddings out past Lake Worth and up toward Azle, where the sky is bigger and the drive is longer. Both run on the same clock, and in North Texas that clock is set by the sun and the heat. Here are the numbers for every month of 2027, and the venues couples ask us about most.
The light in Fort Worth

Fort Worth sits a little west of Dallas, so every sunset here is two or three minutes later than the Dallas numbers in our DFW venues post. The jump between February and March is the clocks changing: a 3:29 ceremony becomes a 4:52 ceremony the week daylight saving starts. The jump between October and November is the same thing in reverse, and it catches more couples out, because early November still feels like fall.
The summer problem, and the spring one
A June ceremony at 5:54 means guests sitting in full sun at the warmest part of a Texas evening. A July wedding in Fort Worth is a real option, but only with a plan.
- Go later. Start at 6:45 or 7:00, keep the ceremony short, and step straight into portraits as the sun drops. Family formals get done quickly in the shade, and the reception runs a little later.
- Move the ceremony under cover. A downtown or Near Southside venue with an indoor room lets you marry in the air conditioning and walk outside at 8:00 for the last of the light.
- Choose October or March. An October ceremony at 4:11 with a 6:56 sunset is the most comfortable day of the year to be outside in a suit. March gives you a 7:37 sunset and a long, easy evening.
Spring has its own catch. April and May are storm season in North Texas, and a fine morning can turn into a loud afternoon. For an outdoor ceremony in those months, we always ask what the covered backup is and where it is, so that the switch takes ten minutes and not forty.

The Botanic Garden's review count needs a footnote: most of those ten thousand reviews come from people visiting the garden, not from wedding couples. Even so, a garden is about the kindest setting there is for portraits in late light, and it sits right in the Cultural District, a short drive from downtown.
River Ranch Stockyards puts you in the part of Fort Worth that visitors come to see, and it is the natural choice for couples who want the city's western side to be part of the day. BRIK Venue on South Calhoun and The 4 Eleven on South Main are a few blocks apart on the Near Southside, close to the downtown hotels, which makes getting-ready and the ride home simple.
Out to the northwest, Fort Worth Country Memories and The Heirloom Hideaway & Arboreum share a corner of the city out toward Lake Worth, and Hidden Gardens Event Venue sits on Jacksboro Highway in Lakeside. Stoney Ridge Villa in Azle is the farthest out on the list and has the highest rating of the eight. For any of these four, plan the drive from your hotel into the timeline, and plan who is driving home after the last dance.
The Fort Worth venue hub lists every venue we have a page for, each with sunset at its own address.
What we would do
For an October wedding: hair and makeup at a downtown hotel, a first look at 2:45, the ceremony at 4:11, family formals right after, and the two of you out for a portrait walk at 6:15, just as golden hour starts. The reception opens with the sky going pink.
For a June or July wedding: a first look indoors at 4:30, a ceremony at 6:45 with shade for guests, quick family formals, and fifteen minutes alone at 8:10 while the sun goes down. Nobody melts, and the portraits get the best light of the day.
For a December wedding: a 2:39 ceremony can feel early, but it lets you finish formals by 4:00 and walk out at 4:45 into the light. By the time the doors open for dinner it is dark, and the reception photographs beautifully indoors.
If you are weighing a first look, our first look post covers how it changes the day. The full sunset table and more on how we work here is on our Fort Worth page, and our packages cover photo, film, or photo and film, with travel included in all 50 states.
Elizabeth Scott is an independent wedding photography and film studio. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any venue named here; venue names identify where couples marry. Ratings and review counts are Google's as of our last check and will change. Sunset and golden-hour times are computed for the 15th of each month in 2027; an outdoor ceremony in open shade can run 20 to 30 minutes later than the start times we suggest.
