New Hampshire gives you three different weddings inside a ninety-minute drive: a harbor and a grand hotel on the Seacoast, a mountain valley in the north, and the barns and vineyards of the Merrimack Valley in the middle. The sunset is nearly the same across all three; the light is not.
The light
Computed for the 15th of each month in 2027. Portsmouth and Manchester are within three minutes of each other; North Conway is four minutes behind Portsmouth in June, and the mountains take the sun off the valley floor earlier than the table says.
| Month | Portsmouth ceremony | North Conway ceremony | Sunset (Portsmouth) | Daylight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 1:48 PM | 1:47 PM | 4:33 PM | 9.4 h |
| February | 2:28 PM | 2:29 PM | 5:13 PM | 10.6 h |
| March | 4:04 PM | 4:05 PM | 6:49 PM | 11.9 h |
| April | 4:40 PM | 4:43 PM | 7:25 PM | 13.4 h |
| May | 5:14 PM | 5:19 PM | 7:59 PM | 14.7 h |
| June | 5:39 PM | 5:44 PM | 8:24 PM | 15.4 h |
| July | 5:35 PM | 5:40 PM | 8:20 PM | 15.1 h |
| August | 5:00 PM | 5:04 PM | 7:45 PM | 14.0 h |
| September | 4:08 PM | 4:10 PM | 6:53 PM | 12.5 h |
| October | 3:15 PM | 3:16 PM | 6:00 PM | 11.1 h |
| November | 1:34 PM | 1:33 PM | 4:19 PM | 9.7 h |
| December | 1:23 PM | 1:21 PM | 4:08 PM | 9.0 h |
In the White Mountains, subtract another twenty to thirty minutes from the ceremony start if your site is in a valley with a ridge to the west. The sun goes behind the ridge before it sets, and the golden hour becomes a golden forty minutes.
Portsmouth and the Seacoast
| Venue | Google rating | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Wentworth by the Sea | 4.4 (1,793) | Grand hotel, New Castle |
| Wentworth By The Sea Country Club | 4.7 (201) | Separate from the hotel, Rye |
| The Thompson Inn & Cyderhouse | 4.9 (105) | Durham |
| The View at Pepperrell Cove | 4.9 (49) | Kittery Point, Maine, across the river |
| The Surf Room | 4.7 (51) | |
| The Envio Weddings & Events | 4.2 (40) | Downtown Portsmouth |
| The Hawthorn Wedding & Events | 5.0 (29) | |
| Churchill Barn Weddings and Events | 4.8 (26) |
The Wentworth is the one with the name, and the hotel and the country club are two different bookings a few minutes apart, which confuses couples every year. The Seacoast light is the flattest of the three regions in the best sense: open sky, water on two sides, and a long even golden hour. Portsmouth hub.
North Conway and the White Mountains
| Venue | Google rating | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Christmas Farm Inn and Spa | 4.5 (1,408) | Jackson |
| Stonehurst Manor | 4.2 (963) | North Conway |
| Eagle Mountain House & Golf Club | 4.3 (718) | Jackson |
| Cranmore Mountain Lodge | 4.8 (413) | North Conway |
| The Barn on the Pemi | 4.7 (207) | Plymouth, on the river |
| The Preserve at Chocorua | 4.9 (152) | Tamworth |
| 1785 Inn | 4.7 (99) | North Conway |
| Whiteface Hollow | 4.8 (75) | Tamworth |
Foliage in the Mount Washington Valley usually peaks in the first two weeks of October, a week or so ahead of southern New Hampshire. That is also a 3:15 ceremony. We tell every couple booking a mountain foliage wedding the same thing: a first look at one o'clock, formals done before the ceremony, and the ceremony itself as the last thing you do in full light. Manchester, Concord and the barn country
| Venue | Google rating | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Dell-Lea Weddings & Events | 4.9 (421) | Chichester |
| Birch Wood Vineyards | 4.8 (385) | Derry |
| Granite Rose | 4.6 (366) | Hampstead |
| Manchester Country Club | 4.5 (293) | Bedford |
| The Barn at Bull Meadow | 4.9 (193) | Concord |
| The Gardens at Uncanoonuc Mountain | 4.7 (166) | Goffstown |
| Oscar Barn Events Venue | 4.7 (127) | |
| Allrose Farm | 4.9 (94) | Greenfield |
This is the region for a barn wedding within an hour of Boston without Vermont prices or a Vermont drive. Dell-Lea and Bull Meadow are the two that come up most. Both are the classic New England shape, a big barn with a lawn ceremony, and both need the ceremony to be on the lawn side of the barn relative to the sun, which we sort out on the scout. What we would do
A June Seacoast wedding: ceremony at 5:30, portraits on the water at 7:40, and a reception that still has light at nine. A foliage wedding in Jackson: first look at 1:00, ceremony at 3:15, and the reception lit for film. A September barn wedding near Concord: ceremony at 4:00, family formals at 4:30, and a twenty-minute walk into the field at 6:15. Each venue page above has the sunset table for that exact spot and the same published pricing we charge everywhere.
Elizabeth Scott is an independent wedding photography and film studio. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any venue named here; venue names identify where couples marry. Ratings and review counts are Google's as of our last check and will change. Sunset and golden-hour times are computed for the 15th of each month in 2027; an outdoor ceremony in open shade or a mountain valley can run 20 to 30 minutes later than the start times we suggest.
