Corpus Christi is the Texas coast without the Houston traffic, a bay city with the Gulf just over the causeway and ranch country a short drive inland. It is also the warmest set of numbers on our Texas list: the shortest day of the year here still has more than ten hours of light. The things to plan around are not the dark, they are the wind, the humidity, and which way the sun is going down. Here is how we think about all three.
The light in Corpus Christi
Computed for the 15th of each month in 2027. Aransas Pass, Mathis and Bishop are within a minute or two of these times.
| Month | Start ceremony | Golden hour | Sunset | Daylight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 3:11 PM | 5:22 PM | 5:56 PM | 10.6 h |
| February | 3:35 PM | 5:48 PM | 6:20 PM | 11.2 h |
| March | 4:53 PM | 7:07 PM | 7:38 PM | 12.0 h |
| April | 5:09 PM | 7:23 PM | 7:54 PM | 12.8 h |
| May | 5:26 PM | 7:38 PM | 8:11 PM | 13.5 h |
| June | 5:41 PM | 7:52 PM | 8:26 PM | 13.9 h |
| July | 5:42 PM | 7:53 PM | 8:27 PM | 13.7 h |
| August | 5:22 PM | 7:35 PM | 8:07 PM | 13.1 h |
| September | 4:49 PM | 7:03 PM | 7:34 PM | 12.3 h |
| October | 4:15 PM | 6:29 PM | 7:00 PM | 11.5 h |
| November | 2:52 PM | 5:03 PM | 5:37 PM | 10.8 h |
| December | 2:51 PM | 5:01 PM | 5:36 PM | 10.4 h |
Being this far south flattens the year. The gap between the longest and shortest days is only three and a half hours, so a December wedding here has a later sunset than December in Dallas or Fort Worth, and a June wedding has an earlier one. The jump between February and March is daylight saving, and it moves the ceremony more than an hour later overnight.
The coastal problem: wind, heat, and where the sun sets
Corpus Christi is one of the windiest cities in the country, and anyone who has lived here knows it. For an outdoor ceremony that means veils that will not stay down, arches that need weighting, and vows that are hard to hear without a microphone. None of it is a reason to stay inside, but it is a reason to plan. Ask your officiant about a microphone, ask your florist to secure the arch, and if you are wearing a long veil, plan to take it off after the ceremony portraits.
Summer adds heat and humidity on top. A June ceremony at 5:41 is a warm one, so the same choices apply as anywhere in Texas: start later and keep it short, move the ceremony under cover, or choose the spring and fall months, when the coast is at its best. Hurricane season runs from June through November, and the late summer and early fall months are the busiest part of it, so for a date in that window we always ask what the indoor backup is.
The third thing is direction. The bay is to the east of the city, which means the sun sets over land, not over the water. For bayfront portraits, that is good news: in golden hour the light falls across the water and onto your faces, with the bay behind you. If you are set on a sun sinking into the sea, that is a different stretch of coast, and our Galveston post covers beach timing in detail.
The venues
| Venue | Google rating | Area |
|---|---|---|
| The Venue by Z Party | 4.7 (332) | Southside |
| Ortiz Center | 4.5 (222) | Downtown |
| Mansion Royal | 4.6 (215) | Southside |
| Texas Event Center At Mansion By The Sea | 4.5 (125) | Aransas Pass |
| The Ranch at San Patricio | 4.5 (123) | Mathis |
| The Courtyard at Gaslight Square | 4.6 (121) | Corpus Christi |
| Rancho Cielito Lindo | 4.6 (81) | Bishop |
| Crystal Reception Hall- Corpus Christi | 4.6 (39) | Southside |
The Venue by Z Party on Saratoga Boulevard has the most reviews on the list. Mansion Royal on South Padre Island Drive and Crystal Reception Hall on Airline Road are also on the Southside, which keeps the drive short for most local guests. Ortiz Center is downtown on Harbor Drive, close to the bayfront and the downtown hotels.
The Courtyard at Gaslight Square on Santa Fe Street is the one for couples who want a courtyard ceremony in town. Texas Event Center at Mansion By The Sea is across the bay in Aransas Pass, on the road toward Port Aransas, and suits couples whose guests are staying on the island side.
Two venues are inland. The Ranch at San Patricio is out near Mathis, about forty minutes northwest, and Rancho Cielito Lindo is in Bishop, to the southwest. Both give you ranch country and open sky, and both put the drive back to a Corpus Christi hotel into the timeline.
The Corpus Christi venue hub lists every venue we have a page for, each with sunset at its own address.
What we would do
For an October wedding: getting ready downtown, a first look at 2:45, a ceremony at 4:15, family formals right after, and a portrait walk along the bayfront at 6:25 as golden hour begins. Veil on for the ceremony and the first portraits, then off before the wind finds it.
For a summer wedding: a first look indoors at 4:30, a ceremony at 6:45 under cover or in shade, quick formals, and the two of you outside at 8:00 for the last of the light. Plan for the wind in every detail, from hairpins to the cake table.
For a December wedding: a 2:51 ceremony, formals done by 4:00, and portraits at 4:50 in light that still feels warm. Winter on the Coastal Bend is mild, and it is the easiest time of year to be outside in formal clothes.
More on how we work here is on our Corpus Christi page, and our packages cover photo, film, or photo and film, with travel included in all 50 states.
Elizabeth Scott is an independent wedding photography and film studio. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any venue named here; venue names identify where couples marry. Ratings and review counts are Google's as of our last check and will change. Sunset and golden-hour times are computed for the 15th of each month in 2027; an outdoor ceremony in open shade can run 20 to 30 minutes later than the start times we suggest.
