Every couple planning a Galveston beach wedding pictures the same photograph: the two of them on the sand with the sun going down into the Gulf behind them. It is a lovely picture and it is geographically impossible on most of the island. Here is why, what you get instead, and the timeline that makes the most of it.
Which way the beach faces
Galveston's Gulf beach, the Seawall and everything east of it, faces south-southeast. The sun sets in the west, over the bay side of the island and the mainland beyond it. Stand on the beach at sunset and the sun is off to your right and behind you, going down over the houses, not the water. The sky over the Gulf still colors beautifully, often pink and violet with the sea flat under it, and the light on the sand is soft because the sun is behind you. It is a better portrait light than a direct sunset, which blinds everyone. It is just not the postcard.
If you want the sun in the water, you need the bay side or the West End, where the island narrows and the beach houses look across West Bay toward the mainland. Sunrise, by contrast, does come out of the Gulf, and a sunrise elopement on the East Beach is the one time the postcard is real.

| March | 4:42 PM | 6:56 PM | 7:27 PM | 12.0 h |

| September | 4:39 PM | 6:53 PM | 7:24 PM | 12.3 h |
| October | 4:04 PM | 6:17 PM | 6:49 PM | 11.5 h |
| November | 2:39 PM | 4:50 PM | 5:24 PM | 10.7 h |
| December | 2:37 PM | 4:47 PM | 5:22 PM | 10.3 h |
On a beach with no shade at all, we would push a summer ceremony later than the table, to about 6:30, and accept a shorter portrait window. Guests in chairs on sand at 5:35 in July is not a wedding anyone enjoys. The wind is the other factor: it picks up in the afternoon most days, and a veil in a Galveston sea breeze is either a great photograph or a problem, depending on whether someone is holding it.

The Moody Mansion is the one to know: a genuine 1895 house in the East End historic district, with interiors that give a getting-ready and a ceremony the kind of depth a beach cannot. Couples often pair it with a beach portrait session, which is a ten-minute drive, and that combination, mansion ceremony then Seawall at golden hour, is the best Galveston timeline we know. The Lasker Inn and the Lyceum are the smaller historic options. Bayside, as the name says, is on the bay, which means it is the one venue on this list with the sun going down over the water.
What we would do
For an October wedding: ceremony at the Moody Mansion at 4:00, family formals in the house, and the two of you on the beach at 6:15 with the sky coloring over the Gulf. For a summer beach ceremony: 6:30 start, chairs angled so guests have the sun behind them, and portraits down the sand at 7:45. For a sunrise elopement: on the East Beach forty minutes before sunrise, and breakfast at the Lasker afterward. The full table is on our Galveston page; Houston, an hour up the causeway, has its own post. Every venue has its own page with our published pricing, which is the same at all of them.

Ratings and review counts are Google's as of our last check and will change. Sunset and golden-hour times are computed for the 15th of each month in 2027; an outdoor ceremony in open shade can run 20 to 30 minutes later than the start times we suggest.
