Newport takes most of the attention in Rhode Island, and we have written about its venues already. The rest of the state has the same bay, the same light, less traffic and, on Block Island, a wedding that is a proper trip. Here are the venues couples ask about north and south of Newport.
The light in Rhode Island

Providence and Narragansett Bay
The east shore of the bay faces west across the water, which means the venues in East Providence and Warwick get the sunset over the bay that Newport, on the other side, does not.

Squantum is a private club on a point of land sticking into the bay, and it has one of the best west-facing ceremony lawns in the state. The Aldrich Mansion, a seventy-room house on seventy acres of Warwick shoreline, is the grandest thing outside Newport. The Providence G is the downtown choice for a city wedding with hotels in walking distance. Block Island
The island is twelve miles out, reached by ferry from Point Judith in about an hour on the traditional boat or thirty minutes on the fast one. Everything about the wedding follows from that.

The Spring House is the wedding venue on Block Island, a Victorian hotel with a lawn looking over the water, and its rooms usually hold most of the guest list. That is the logistics answer: guests come out on Friday, the wedding is Saturday, everyone leaves Sunday, and the ferry schedule is the timeline's fixed point. Vendors, including us, come out the day before. Build the extra night into the plan and the island stops being a complication.
Kinney Bungalow and Regatta Place appear in Block Island searches because they are near the ferry or across the water. They are not on the island. Block Island hub.
What we would do
A June wedding at Squantum: ceremony at 5:40 on the lawn, family formals with the bay behind, and a portrait walk at 7:40 with the sun going down into the water. A September Block Island weekend: out on Friday's afternoon boat, a welcome dinner in the last light, a 4:15 ceremony on Saturday, and a rehearsal-dinner hour of coverage added because the whole weekend is the wedding.
