Central Massachusetts Wedding Venues: Worcester's Halls and the Barns Around It

Central Massachusetts is where Boston couples go for a barn wedding without the drive to Vermont, and where the city itself has two of the best nineteenth-century halls in New England. The region is an hour from Boston, an hour from Hartford and forty minutes from Providence, which is the reason it works for a guest list spread across three states.

The light

Foliage in the hills west of Worcester peaks in the second and third weeks of October, and the table says a 3:20 ceremony. That is the single most useful number on this page for anyone booking a fall barn wedding here.

The venues

Mechanics Hall is the one you should see even if you do not book it: a Great Hall built in 1857 for lectures and concerts, with a coffered ceiling, a balcony on three sides and one of the great pipe organs in the country at the far end. It is an indoor wedding, so the timeline is about the fifteen minutes outside; Worcester Common and the Institute Park are both close. Tuckerman Hall, a few blocks away, is the smaller and rounder cousin, with an oval room that flatters a first dance.

The Barn at Wight Farm in Sturbridge is the most-searched barn in the region and the one couples ask us about most: a working farm setting with a long lawn for the ceremony and a barn that holds a big reception. Harrington Farm in Princeton sits at the foot of Wachusett Mountain with a view down the valley that is the best sunset backdrop on this list. Asa Waters Mansion, a Federal-style house in Millbury, is the pick for a smaller, more formal wedding, and the Barn at Blackstone National in Sutton is the newer barn on a golf course with a hilltop ceremony site.
