Mystic CT Wedding Venues and Ceremony Times by Month

Eight Mystic and Stonington wedding venues, from the harbor to the vineyards, with Google ratings, 2027 ceremony start times by month, and a plan for fall.

Mystic is where Connecticut weddings go to the water. The town sits on the Mystic River where it opens to Fishers Island Sound, Stonington is next door, and a few miles inland the land turns to vineyards and farms. That mix is the reason couples pick it: a harbor ceremony and a vineyard reception can be a short drive apart. It also means two different kinds of light, open water and open fields, and both run on the same clock. Here it is.

The light in Mystic

Computed for the 15th of each month in 2027. Stonington and North Stonington are within a minute of these times; Canterbury, further north, is about the same.

The start-ceremony column is sunset minus two hours and forty-five minutes, which leaves room for vows, family formals and a portrait walk inside golden hour. Mystic is at the eastern end of the state, so its sunsets come about seven minutes earlier than Greenwich's all year. Daylight swings six hours, from 15.1 hours in June to 9.2 in December.

Summer crowds, fall dark, and the water

Mystic has two timing problems, and they arrive in different seasons.

In summer it is a busy tourist town. Traffic on I-95 and through downtown is heavier on summer weekends, and the drawbridge in the middle of town opens for boat traffic, so a car crossing the river at the wrong moment waits. None of that is a reason to avoid a summer date. It is a reason to put fifteen minutes of slack between getting ready and the ceremony, and to tell guests to leave earlier than their phones suggest.

In fall the problem is the light. An October ceremony belongs at 3:22, with sunset at 6:07 and civil dusk at 6:34. After the clocks go back on the first Sunday of November, the start time drops to 1:43. Couples who set a 5:00 ceremony in October because it sounded right end up taking portraits in the dark.

The water adds one more thing to plan for. Evenings by the Sound are often cooler and breezier than they are inland, even in summer, so a harbor ceremony wants a plan for hair, veils and guests in light clothing. On the vineyard side, the low sun across the rows in September and October is some of the prettiest light in the state.

Inn at Mystic has by far the most Google reviews here, 911, which tells you a lot of people have been through its doors. Harbor View Landing on Casino Road and Mystic Yachting Club at Willow Point on Essex Street are the two whose names put them on the water, and Harbor View Landing has the highest rating on the list at 4.9. Delamar Mystic, on Greenmanville Avenue, rounds out the Mystic addresses.

The vineyards are the other half of the list. Saltwater Farm Vineyard in Stonington is the one couples ask us about most, and Kingdom of the Hawk Vineyard is up in North Stonington, a little further from the coast. The Hounds, on Stonington Road, shares the 4.9 with Harbor View Landing on a smaller number of reviews.

Wright's Mill Farm is the one to check on a map before you fall for it. It is in Canterbury, well north of the coast, so it is a different kind of day from a harbor wedding, and your guests' hotel plans should reflect the drive.

We do not list capacity or amenities because only the venue can quote those accurately. The Mystic venue hub has every venue with the sunset at that exact address.

What we would do

June or July. Ceremony at 5:35, family formals right after, and the two of you out at 7:40 for golden hour. On the harbor, stay out until the 8:22 sunset; the reflection off the water in those last minutes is worth leaving cocktail hour for.

September. The month we would pick here. Ceremony at 4:10, portraits in the vineyard rows from 6:20, sunset at 6:57, and mild evenings without the summer traffic.

Mid October. A first look at 1:30 so formals are done early, ceremony at 3:20, and portraits from 5:29 until sunset at 6:07.

December. Ceremony at 1:30, or indoors later if your venue allows it, with portraits at 3:30 in the golden light and a short walk at about 4:30, between sunset and civil dusk at 4:50.

The full sunset table is on our Mystic page. Our Connecticut venues by region post puts Mystic next to the Litchfield Hills and Hartford, and Greenwich has its own post for the other end of the shoreline. We offer photo, film, and photo and film together, travel is included in all 50 states, and our published pricing is the same at every venue above.

Elizabeth Scott is an independent wedding photography and film studio. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any venue named here; venue names identify where couples marry. Ratings and review counts are Google's as of our last check and will change. Sunset and golden-hour times are computed for the 15th of each month in 2027; an outdoor ceremony in open shade can run 20 to 30 minutes later than the start times we suggest.
